ZF: Pacesetter of Transformation

With new products in the areas of decarbonization, digitalization and safety, ZF presents some of its latest key innovations at the IAA Transportation 2024. Among the highlights are the new transmission system TraXon 2 Hybrid and the chassis software cubiX, which the technology group is now making available for commercial vehicles after a successful series launch in passenger cars. At the IAA Transportation 2024, the largest supplier to the commercial vehicle industry with the broadest portfolio continues to underscore its position as a pacesetter of transformation.

In addition to decades of established know-how and engineering knowledge, ZF has another decisive advantage: its extensive product portfolio that covers the diverse requirements and applications of commercial vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators. From the innovative cubiX chassis software to the development of a new electric drive platform, ZF is renowned for developing and industrializing innovations for various mobility applications across its divisions. This enables the company to create attractive solutions for manufacturers in order to offer smarter, safer and more sustainable vehicles.

New hybrid solution

At the IAA, ZF exhibits its new TraXon 2 Hybrid transmission system for heavy commercial vehicles for the first time. This bridging technology helps to simplify the transition to e-mobility, achieve ambitious CO2 targets and takes into account the regional variations in the speed of decarbonization.

Zero-Emission Technologies: ZF's E-Mobility Modular Kit

ZF is leading the development of next generation e-mobility drivelines. The modular e-mobility kit, with its central drives CeTrax 2 and CeTrax 2 dual as well as its axle variants, AxTrax 2, AxTrax 2 dual and AxTrax 2 LF, offers everything commercial vehicle manufacturers need to produce zero-emission electric vehicles, up to 44 tons.

The AxTrax 2 electric axle can also be integrated into semitrailers. Combined with its ZF Trailer EBS system and an external battery box, the new concept effectively transforms a conventional driven truck-trailer combination into a hybrid vehicle. Particularly advantageous: the electric trailer increases also increases the range of an electric truck. The concept saves fuel emissions by up to 16 percent and - when using the plug-in variant - by up to 40 percent.

The goal: zero accidents

Solutions for increased safety are also among the key topics of this year's IAA. As a global supplier with the broadest product portfolio in the commercial vehicle industry, ranging from individual components to complete system solutions, ZF showcases many of its safety systems that contribute to complying with the latest ADAS regulations. Other innovations exhibited at the IAA go beyond the legal requirements.

Another highlight at the ZF booth is the ADAS-supported autonomous emergency braking system OnGuardMAX, which intelligently combines the advanced mBSP XBS braking platform with ADAS systems.

Digitalization and software solutions

Originally developed for the passenger car sector where it is already successfully in volume production, ZF is now expanding the cubiX portfolio to commercial vehicles. cubiX controls all actuators to ensure vehicle stability, safety, precision and performance. With this development, ZF creates a holistic offer for advanced motion control in the vehicle. Since the technology company announced the launch of cubiX for commercial vehicles in June, ZF's vehicle motion control software has attracted a lot of interest in the industry. As a basic technology for automated driving, cubiX offers enormous potential for use in logistics centers such as freight yards and ports.
