Can you briefly introduce yourself, your position, and your company?
I lead the Energy Economy unit at Fraunhofer ISI. As part of the Fraunhofer Society, we conduct applied research for clients in politics, society, and industry. Specifically, we also produce studies and scientific reports on the electrification of transportation.
What does the IAA TRANSPORTATION slogan “People and Goods On The Move” mean to you?
Transportation is not an end in itself but serves people and their needs.
What are your expectations for IAA TRANSPORTATION 2024?
I’m hoping for a boost in electric transportation and more clarity regarding the role of different technologies in the transition.
What topic will you be presenting at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2024?
I will be presenting the “HoLa – High-Performance Charging in Long-Haul Trucking” project. We are currently building the first public megawatt charging stations for battery-powered trucks at several locations and have many findings about the future role and demand for megawatt charging.
What crucial topic of the future gets too little attention from the public in your opinion?
How urgent and irreversible the climate crisis is and how quickly we need to act.
In which area of the transport and logistics sector do you see the greatest potential and where do you see the most room for improvement?
The transition to electricity as a central fuel is both a huge opportunity and a challenge for logistics.

I plan to engage with logistics providers, network and infrastructure operators, as well as vehicle manufacturers. The transition to sustainable road freight transport is a massive task that requires the involvement of many important players.
The shift in the transport and logistics sector towards sustainable solutions is significant. What is your vision for the sector in 20 years?
In 20 years, almost all road freight transport will be electric!
