Mars commits to net-zero greenhouse emissions in transportation by 2050
This initiative is a key part of Mars' strategy to reduce its emissions to net-zero across its entire value chain by 2050. The company anticipates this move will cut its CO2 emissions by 20,000 tons annually, aiming to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 10 percent per year and halve them by 2030. To achieve this, Mars plans investments of one billion dollars over the next three years.
Mars and Einride to bring 300 electric trucks to europe's roads
The electrification of their transport route between the office location in Verden and the logistics center in Minden began in January 2023. By operating two electric trucks on this route, an estimated annual saving of 400 tons of CO2 is expected, with a transition to green electricity at both charging locations planned for October 2024.
The CO2 emissions from operating these two trucks are expected to be reduced to zero across the entire energy chain. Einride provided Mars with two 40-ton Mercedes-Benz eActros 300 trucks and two charging stations with a total of four charging points, operated by Einride's management system.
Further pilot project with autonomous vehicles
In addition to Germany, more routes are planned in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Moreover, a pilot project with autonomously operated vehicles is scheduled for next year.
