The Year of the Kangaroo – heralded at IAA TRANSPORTATION

A kangaroo at a trade fair for transport and logistics? Perfectly normal at the IAA TRANSPORTATION - because it has an important role.

Blicki, mascot of the "Blicki Blickt's" initiative, visits elementary schools throughout Germany to educate them about the rules, as well as the risks and dangers, of transport - and does so at four learning stations, hands-on and with real trucks on site. Workshops will be held at the IAA TRANSPORTATION from September 23 to 25. The topic: "Blicki blickt's - recognizing the potential dangers of trucks safely!"

But that's not all. On September 23, the association behind it, together with the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport, is proclaiming the Year of the Kangaroo. The goal in the Year of the Kangaroo 2023 is to make the roads even safer for the youngest road users* and to sensitize at least 10,000 children to the dangers of large trucks in live workshops.

In addition, the existing program will be further updated in the Year of the Kangaroo. New challenges in road traffic – such as e-mobility and the use of smartphones on the way to school – will play an important role.

And best of all: In cooperation with Paul Lange and Orbea, Blicki e.V. will be giving away a children's bike on each day of the event. All children who have participated in the "Blicki blickt's" workshop can take part (maximum one participation per family).

Do prevention work as early as possible

Despite all the measures and caution, it still happens every day: a child gets into danger on the road. In 2020, 22,462 children were involved in accidents on German roads. This means that, on average, a child under the age of 15 was injured in road traffic every 23 minutes.

In heavy goods traffic alone, there were more than 23,000 road accidents with personal injury in Germany in 2021. Blind spots or the simple fact that children are smaller than adults and therefore less visible are particularly treacherous for the youngest road users. To prevent dangerous situations, technological innovations, and caution on the part of all road users can help above all else: prevention. And as early as possible.

This is exactly where the non-profit association Blicki e. V. comes in: with "Blicki blickt's" it brings road safety training directly to schools and kindergartens. Together with Blicki the kangaroo, children between the ages of five and ten learn the basics of safe participation in road traffic in a fun and interactive way. The focus of the educational work is on large vehicles and trucks.
